Ayn Rand

I love the writings of Ayn Rand for the very simple reason that she stated a fact that I also personally adhere too: no individual should be a sacrificial animal, that every man is an end itself, not as a means for others and that it is possible to feel a sense of achievement independent from pleasing other people. All my life I had been taught that the my primary purpose of my existence is to serve the wishes and whims of other people, to the point I have almost geared my career for it , and it would have cost me my own life a few years ago . Ayn Rand made me realize the sovereign entity that is me, and the only best way for human beings to live is to respect the right of each individual to pursuit their aspirations without the expense of another human being’s existence. While I have nothing against compassion, at the extreme it can be unhealthy. Compassion‘s purpose can be bastardized to the point that others may start wishing suffering and dependence on others so that they can feel useful, righteous and important.
