Dumb Intellectual

I think once in our life, we meet someone who by definition is, “intelligent”. This person studied in a school known for academic excellence, can cite excerpts from the works of great philosophers, can do great math etc. But for some strange reason, this person couldn’t keep a regular job. It is not because he lacked the skill or capability to do work, but he has developed a mentality rationalized by a chopsuey of philosophies that he read that working in a regular job is supporting institutions whose ideology he doesn’t approve of. So what happens? He becomes a financial drain to his family, and in time to society. Now what is wrong with this picture? This person forgot that no matter how sophisticated human society has become in the end we are no different from the animals; that we have to move our ass to survive. This means working and getting along with people that we don’t like. If he wants a reality check on human survival, abandon this person in a jungle, and see if his intellectual angst can convince the predators in the jungle not to eat him. Let’s see if his intellectual angst can get him food and clothing in the jungle. Obviously, he has to work to survive, and no amount of philosophical rationalization can evade that fact.
